LESSON 7: NATURAL VEGETATION PATTERNS
Natural vegetation is plant life that is native (natural) to a region. Natural vegetation is very important:
- it puts oxygen into the air for living things to breathe
- it provides habitat and food for animal life
- it provides shelter, medication and other products for humans
The type of natural vegetation in a region depends on two factors:
1) CLIMATE
Plants depend on sun, temperature and rainfall to survive. In the Amazon, there is a warm year-round temperature and a lot of rainfall, so plant life is a lush rainforest. In the Arctic, temperatures are cold and there is limited rainfall, so plant life is sparse.
